Carvana Value Tracker
Shaping Carvana’s Real-Time Value Tracking Experience

Carvana Value Tracker is a groundbreaking product feature that allows customers to track their car’s real-time value as market conditions evolve. By eliminating the need for re-entering information or restarting the selling process, it offers users a seamless way to stay informed about their vehicle’s worth and make better decisions.
The design team at Carvana developed the Value Tracker’s visual identity and user experience, focusing on clarity, empowerment, and accessibility. Through comprehensive research, strategic design explorations, and innovative concepts, the final product became an essential tool for car owners to navigate their vehicle’s value with confidence.

Setting the Stage with Visual Research
We began with mood boards and inspiration gathering, referencing Carvana’s brand elements while exploring possibilities. This approach aligned the design with the brand and established a foundation for a clean, modern visual direction focused on clarity and trust.

Digging Deeper into Product Design
Collaborating with the product design team, we analyzed the Sell to Carvana flow to identify opportunities and adjustments for the Value Tracker. Interviews with designers and engineers provided insights into user needs, shaping a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Learning from the Competition
We studied competitors like Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book to understand their approaches to data visualization and dashboards. This research guided our strategy, enabling us to create a clean, user-friendly interface that met user needs effectively.
Exploring Bold Directions
Our team explored multiple design directions for both visual and product design, focusing on gradient motifs, graph styling, landing page content modules, and branding integration. These explorations emphasized Carvana’s optimistic and innovative tone while reinforcing the tool’s functionality.

Visualizing the Concept
The final visual concept featured gradient-colored graph motifs and upward trajectories, symbolizing rising value and empowerment. Marketing assets—including email, social media, and banners—highlighted the Value Tracker’s benefits with vibrant visuals and concise messaging.

Building a Seamless Landing Experience
We created a modular landing page design featuring a prominent call-to-action, supporting visuals, and content blocks explaining the tool’s functionality. Each section, from the “How it Works” module to the benefits overview, was designed for maximum clarity and engagement.

Defining the Rules
A comprehensive style guide was developed to ensure consistency across all touchpoints. It included detailed guidelines for typography, color usage, photography composition, and examples for both product and marketing contexts, solidifying the Value Tracker’s cohesive identity.

Outcome
The Carvana Value Tracker design system was well-received across the organization, earning praise from marketing, product, and engineering teams for its clarity and visual impact. While I left Carvana before seeing the full impact of the project, the work represented a significant step forward in empowering car owners with real-time value insights. I am proud to have contributed to a tool that aligns with Carvana’s mission to make car ownership simpler and smarter.
